About The Role

We are looking for a dynamic and ambitious Lecturer with experience as a Fashion Stylist, Art Director, Creative Director, Fashion Editor or Fashion Curator to join the BA(Hons) Fashion Styling and Art Direction course.

You will build on the international reputation of the Fashion and Textiles Institute at Falmouth University and play a key role in leading the development of undergraduate study in the discipline. You will contribute to the delivery of the course through your provision of inspiring and supporting learning opportunities, providing a stimulating and nurturing environment for both students and colleagues.

The role will enhance professional, academic and research partnerships to ensure that the course anticipates the changing needs of the global fashion communication industry, commerce and society.

About You

As a sophisticated and innovative Fashion Stylist, Art Director, Creative Director, Fashion Editor, or Fashion Curator with academic experience, you’ll have extensive industry practice and a substantial portfolio experience working for leading fashion editorial publications and/or fashion advertising campaigns.  You’ll have an advanced theoretical understanding of the fashion communication subject area, including its historical, aesthetic, social, cultural and political contexts.

In so doing, you’ll be able to take responsibility for the teaching of students, with the ambition to extend and test the boundaries of what constitutes innovative practice within the field of fashion communication, and with interest in and openness to other forms of artistic expression such as film, architecture, performance and sculpture and the possible connections between them.

You are expected to have advanced practical, artistic knowledge and skills, with a broad interest in fashion and its culture. The position requires professional skills relevant and necessary for progressing contemporary practice.  Creative and highly motivated, you’ll be experienced in the challenges of enabling diverse student cohorts to explore the discipline, to reach their full potential and to foster new approaches to practice and research. You will have excellent communication skills and be adept in the use of new technologies. You will have the ability to lead and to work as part of a team, sharing your knowledge with colleagues and students alike.

For further details on the skills/experience required for this role, please see the full job description above.

There are two permanent positions available: full-time, 35 hours a week and part-time, 28 hours per week. If you are looking to have an informal discussion about the vacancy ahead of applying, please email [email protected].

The closing date for the position is Sunday 14 July 2024.

Interviews will take place on Monday 29 July 2024.
