About The Role

With 120 years’ creative arts experience, we are on a quest to offer the highest standards of teaching and professional facilities, as well as a vibrant creative community. With over 7,000 students, our portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate courses and postgraduate research represents the breadth of the creative industries, from art, design and fashion, to games, music, film and business.

Our mission is to deliver exceptional higher education and research, harnessing the fusion of creativity and technology as foundations of the future economy. We use our knowledge and expertise in these disciplines to generate positive and sustainable opportunities for all.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer to join our established team based at the Woodlane campus at Falmouth University, Cornwall. This beautiful location makes the most of its regional context, just five minutes from the beach and surrounded by a stunning tropical garden. Based in The School of Architecture, Design and Interiors (SADI) at Falmouth University this successful interior design course has recently expanded to include separate interior architecture provision (previously it was integrated into the interior design course).

You will join an ambitious and cohesive course team in the delivery of an expanding rosta of specialist courses tailored to the built environment. Active engagement will be expected for the marketing of the course to ensure top quality recruitment.

About You

An experienced academic &/or design practitioner, you will be interested in sharing your knowledge in relation to interior architecture, adaptive reuse, community design and sustainability across undergraduate levels of study. We would love to speak to candidates who are creative, entrepreneurial, committed, and ambitious with the academic and professional credibility to develop our reputation with the creative industries and beyond, both nationally and internationally.

The ability to ‘inspire’ the next generation of designers is key to this role. Evidencing a specialism in, and knowledge of interior architecture is essential but the ability to teach more broadly in relation to design process, creativity, materiality and interior procurement through to relevant digital industry specific communication skills is always desirable.

The successful candidate will hold a Master’s degree in Interior Architecture or associated field with a strong track record of practice-led research in an area appropriate to Interior Architecture. You should possess a PGCHE or equivalent, and/or fellowship of the Higher Education Academy  (HEA), or be willing to work towards that qualification. You must be able to demonstrate up-to-date working knowledge of current practices and research within the field and you will have a passion for, and experience of, developing innovative and inclusive pedagogy.

We are looking to hear from candidates who have the following skills/experience:

  • Interior Architecture / Interior Design experience working within a practice or having run their own projects.
  • Experience of teaching within and HE environment
  • A demonstrable commitment to scholarship, research and/or innovation.
  • Ability to network both within and outside the University with appropriate academic and non-academic partners.
For further details on the skills/experience required for this role, please see the full job description above.

This is a permanent, part-time, 14 hours per week position.

If you are looking to have an informal discussion about the vacancy ahead of applying, please email [email protected].

The closing date for the position is Sunday 24 November 2024.

Interviews will take place week commencing 2 December 2024.
