Working on a casual basis

About The Role

An opportunity has arisen to join the Fashion & Textiles Institute’s Design Centre as a Textiles Digital Print Technician, providing support to students, staff, and external clients on a flexible, casual basis.

The role will involve working in the Textiles Digital Print Bureau, typically for one day a week during term time, though flexibility will be required to meet demand during particularly busy periods. Your responsibilities will include assisting customers with their print requirements, preparing files, printing to order, and finishing processes such as steaming.

There will also be administrative duties to manage sales records and stock levels. In addition, you will work with the senior technician to explore new business opportunities for the bureau, which could lead to the possibility of additional hours.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a busy and creative environment, while developing your skills further.  Join us and help shape the future of textile innovation at Falmouth University.

About You

The successful candidate for this role will have recent experience in a textiles digital print environment as well as technical skills including knowledge of repeat patterns and proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

The ability assist customers with technical needs, ensuring a smooth workflow from start to finish is key, as is a clear understanding of health and safety considerations within a digital print setting.  You should be experienced in using computerised systems to manage stock, maintain records and communicate with clients.

As well as being reliable with excellent timekeeping skills, you should be confident in working independently, showing initiative and adaptability.  You will be able to demonstrate excellent customer care, with the ability to deal with students and staff in a tactful and sensitive manner.

We are looking to hear from candidates who have the following skills/experience:

  • Demonstrable experience of working in a textiles digital print environment.
  • Knowledge of common printing faults such as banding and an eye for detail.
  • Possession of the IOSH qualification or a willingness to complete (training will be provided).
  • Knowledge of Fabrics, being able to identify each type and understand how they react in the print environment
For further details on the skills/experience required for this role, please see the full job description above.

This is a casual hourly paid position, with hours to be flexible on a weekly basis, depending on demand.

If you are looking to have an informal discussion about the vacancy ahead of applying, please email [email protected].

The closing date for the position is Tuesday 10 December 2024.
