About The Role

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Lecturer in Music to join our team. This part-time, fixed-term role is primarily to cover teaching, core academic responsibilities, and pastoral care in the Music subject area in study block 2 while several colleagues are on research secondments within the Centre for Blended Realities.

Whilst you will have the opportunity to contribute to both practical and theoretical modules, principally you will lead an innovative, theory-based undergraduate module titled ‘Music and Sound: Resonant Futures’, which explores the evolving relationship between music, sound, technology, and culture in a rapidly changing world. Through this module, you will encourage students to think critically and creatively about the future of music and sound in the context of the digital age, offering opportunities for imaginative and futurist exploration.

You will guide students in exploring the intersection of music, sound, media studies, and emerging technologies, with a particular focus on conceptualising new modes of engagement with music and sound. The successful candidate will foster an environment that encourages critical thinking about the boundary between the ‘real’ and the ‘virtual,’ the ‘human’ and the ‘more-than-human,’ as well as the concepts of authenticity, agency, identity, and performance in digital contexts.

At AMATA, our teaching is deeply research-driven, aligning with our research clusters within the Faculty for Screen, Technology, and Performance. Our staff are active contributors to Falmouth University’s interdisciplinary research centres, which inform and enhance our teaching practice:  Centre for Arts and Health, Centre for Blended Realities , Centre for Heritage, Culture and Society and the Centre for Pedagogy Futures.

As a Lecturer in Music, you will have the opportunity to engage with these research areas, contributing to the cutting-edge work being carried out at AMATA and fostering a dynamic, research-led learning environment. Our approach integrates creative practice with theoretical inquiry, ensuring that our students receive a rich, holistic education that is grounded in the latest developments across these diverse fields.

About You

You are an experienced academic with a strong research profile and a passion for teaching. You have a proven track record in the music, sound, and media studies disciplines, with expertise in blending critical theory and practice. Your creative, innovative approach to teaching will empower students to critically engage with contemporary audio-visual media while encouraging future-facing perspectives on music and sound.

You will hold a postgraduate degree in a relevant field and have experience teaching at undergraduate level. You will also be committed to research and scholarship in the fields of music and sound education, and have the ability to inspire students to push creative boundaries and ways of thinking.

We are looking for some who has the following skills/experience:

  • Enthusiastic, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate ideas effectively.
  • Able to demonstrate a clear commitment to scholarship, innovation, and research in music and sound education.

  • A team player, ready to collaborate and engage with colleagues within AMATA and beyond.
