About The Role

Falmouth Universities ambitious 2030 Strategy, ‘Doing it for Real’, is designed to deliver yet further growth in our student numbers and income through portfolio diversification, innovation, research and commercial ventures. It will establish Falmouth as the market leader for creative industries and entrepreneurship education over the next decade, capitalising on our considerable assets in innovation-led research and business incubation. 
 
Because of this growth we are now seeking a Learning Designer, who is passionate about leading and supporting course teams in effective curriculum design to play a crucial role in developing Falmouth’s portfolio for the future. Part of the Digital Learning team, this role will work alongside other Learning Designers, academic colleagues and technologists in applying Falmouth pedagogy to new and existing courses. Falmouth’s fully online portfolio has grown significantly since its launch in 2016; by 2030 the University will have 6500 students on-campus, and 8500 off-campus students, this role will help ensure that Falmouth’s portfolio is designed to reach new markets and meet evolving student needs.
 
This role is critical in helping course teams to design and redesign their courses through a series of workshops and facilitated sessions. Learning Designers actively engage with academic teams and advocate for considered online learning practice.
 
Digital Learning are a specialist team within the institution who work in partnership with academic departments to develop courses for blended and fully online delivery using the Falmouth pedagogic approach. Learning Design as a process has been established for a few years, with the last 18 months in particular bringing into sharp focus the importance of considered design when developing blended modules.

About You

The successful candidate for this role will come from a learning and teaching background with knowledge of designing for blended and online delivery. The role requires a dynamic individual who has previous experience of working with academic teams and is enthusiastic about creative arts based subjects and the opportunity this brings for curriculum design.
 
You’ll need experience in a similar position and where you have played an active role in facilitating workshops that challenge and inform curriculum design with subject experts.
 
This is a fast-paced role and we’re looking for a person who has the energy and commitment needed to ensure our courses are sector leading. You’ll need to be a pro-active ‘team player’ who works well with people from a range of disciplines, be great at managing your time and relish the challenge of working with diverse subject areas.You’ll need to be experienced in working with various pedagogies, be confident in outcomes, adaptable in learning activities and know about effective assessment design.Alongside these core qualities, we are looking to hear from candidates who have the following skills/experience:

  • Experience of running course design workshops that equip academic teams with appropriate tools and skills to design learning activities that align to curriculum principles.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current course design practice, toolkits, and approaches for UG and PG pathways covering various modes of study (campus-based, online, blended).
  • Well-evidenced knowledge and understanding of the design of pedagogic and assessment processes.
  • High level of skill in presenting complex ideas about online and blended learning and innovation to diverse audiences.
