About The Role

We are currently seeking to appoint a dynamic leader and manager as Course Leader for our BA (Hons) Acting course. The post-holder will be responsible to the Subject Head of Theatre Arts, and will support the Head of Subject in academic leadership and operational management.
The BA (Hons) Acting course is designed to create flexible, responsive, resilient, inquiring, skillful, innovative performers who can not only make a living in their chosen discipline but also help to redefine it. Our graduates will know how to source and recognise industry opportunities and also how to be instrumental in creating them. The BA (Hons) Acting course requires an experienced and dedicated academic leader and practitioner with a high level of professional expertise in contemporary actor training, directing, contexts, histories, theories and contemporary industry practice and connections. You will be an inspiring teacher, able to deliver contemporary acting techniques and direct productions and projects. You will be expected to deliver core curriculum content through rehearsals, tutorials, contextual lectures and seminars. the successful candidate will have excellent administrative skills and a commitment to delivering an excellent student experience according to University TEF and NSS targets.
As Course Leader, you will provide leadership and management to the course team and support the Head of Subject with planning and managing operational management within the Subject-area. You will lead BA Acting curriculum development, ensuring a positive student experience and will oversee quality assurance for the course through annual course and module reviews. Alongside this you will be responsible for the preparation and delivery of classes, lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials, with the ability to develop strong links between theory and practice

About You

You will have excellent communication skills and the commitment to design and deliver an outstanding learning experience for the students. You will act as the face of the course, both internally and externally and be the main point of contact for recruitment promotion and recruitment initiatives. You will have a relevant first degree and and a teaching qualification (or the willingness to achieve one within two years). An MA or postgraduate qualification in your discipline is highly desirable. You will be an organised and effective manager of a talented and ambitious team within an exciting and developing subject area.
We are looking to hear from candidates with the following skills/experience:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Acting/Theatre Contexts, Histories Theory and Practice.
  • Experience of curriculum development.
  • Proven ability and experience as a Director.
  • Experience of teaching within an HE environment sufficient to have gained a thorough knowledge and understanding of the requirements on those teaching at this level.
  • An ongoing and demonstrable commitment to research, professional practice and/or Knowledge Transfer.
