About The Role

We are seeking to recruit an Online Tutor to join our online MA Journalism course within The School of Communication.  Working closely with the team the successful candidate's key role will be to support students undertaking the Journalism, Innovation and Enterprise module.

Online tutors play a central role and are vital to the success and vibrancy of our online courses. Tutors are a constant presence in the module, the first point of contact for students’ academic enquiries and supporting their learning activities. The module is primarily asynchronous (not undertaken in real-time), online tutors log in and tend to the activities in the module at multiple points during the day and study week (including weekends).

This part-time, 10 hour per week, flexible home-working role starts in May 2021 and will support a group of students for 16 weeks until September 2021.

About You

Educated to a degree level, or equivalent industry experience, the ideal candidate will have evidence of professional news media experience and a demonstrable technical engagement with, and interest in, journalism innovation, new and emerging media business models and creative entrepreneurship. You will have excellent communication skills, and the commitment to deliver and excellent online learning experience for students.

We are looking to hear from candidates who also have the following skills/experience:

  • An understanding of the principles and practicalities of online learning
  • Strong connections with industry and professional practice
  • Excellent digital literacy
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
