About The Role

Falmouth University's Games Academy and the Launchpad Programme are seeking a new Games Incubation Lead. This role will run until September 2023, and is open to both remote candidates or those who would like to be based at the university in Cornwall. The role is envisioned as a 0.5 part time job and would suit anyone currently involved with mentoring games startups.
 
Falmouth University's Games Incubator takes teams of Game Dev students and assists in turning them into businesses with publishable games worth making. It is a mature programme which makes use of a panel of industry mentors alongside development expertise and facilities in the Games Academy. The different institutions and mentors involved also have opportunities to take up stakes in the start-up companies if they are made sustainable.
 
The ideal candidate will have extensive games industry contacts and a real understanding of what it takes to succeed as a start-up games company, combined with a desire to mentor and indie start-up founders of the future. Many small companies have come out of Falmouth University in the games space, some with high valuations and successes including Moonshine Studios, Studio Somewhere and Waving Bear, as well as games-adjacent companies such as Codices. Incubation of small companies at Falmouth is a well-trodden path and you would be working with many other experts in this field.

About You

Essential Requirements:

  • Comprehensive and current games industry contacts.
  • Clear understanding of the games industry as well as its publishing pipelines.
  • Creativity and a creative background.
  • Experience working in or around Indie Game Development Experience coaching teams or teammates, or mentoring junior developers to keep them on track.
  • Experience of Industry Pitching.
 
Desirable Requirements:

  • Successful track record of raising money for indie game projects
  • Experience or understanding of self-publishing or Kickstarting a game project
