About The Role

We are pleased to be recruiting a Student Advisor to ensure we continue to deliver an outstanding student experience at Falmouth University.

As a Student Advisor you will be working closely with students on the University’ new Integrated Foundation Year (IFY) courses. These four-year courses provide an introductory year to help students access more specialist degree-level study across Falmouth’s course portfolio.

You will work in partnership with the IFY course team, alongside other specialist teams (e.g. wellbeing support and accessibility) to ensure timely identification, intervention and case management of students who are at risk of not progressing or withdrawing from their studies. This will involve careful monitoring of students to make sure they remain on track, providing high quality advice and supporting students to independently manoeuvre University processes with ease.

You will be part of an existing team of Student Advisors and managed centrally within the Learning and Teaching directorate. There is an expectation that you will be able to work flexibly across our Penryn and Falmouth campuses, and online as appropriate.

About You

The ideal candidate will have a knowledge of and empathy for the challenges faced by students, great people skills and an ability to work systems to help us identify the students most in need of support. Alongside these key skills, we are looking for a positive, supportive and a flexible team player to provide effective advice and support for our students.
 
We are looking for candidates who have the following skills/experience:
 
  • Recent and relevant experience of providing customer/student/client support face to face, on the phone or online, ideally gained in in FE or HE, particularly in a pastoral care context.
  • Strong working knowledge of a wide variety of computer systems and packages
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, active listening skills and ability to communicate effectively and confidentially, verbally and in writing.
