About The Role

Falmouth University is currently seeking an ambitious and energetic Course Leader and practitioner to join our team and play a key role in the successful delivery our new course BA(Hons) Illustration (Online) delivered by Falmouth University. You will be responsible to the Head of Illustration and will support the Head in academic leadership and operational management.
 
BA(Hons) Illustration online is a wholly online equivalent of our internationally recognised and long established on-campus course, targeting creative and original undergraduate learners throughout the world. With a rigorous academic underpinning, the course has been designed to support development of innovative visual problem solving and language combined with professional practice creating independent and curious students who are adaptable to change and industry ready.
 
Illustration practice is integrated within theory, while students are encouraged to define their own unique visual communication through visual problem solving, ideation and media exploration. As Course Leader, you will provide leadership and management to the course team and support the Head of Subject with new product development, growth of the department, planning and operational management within the Subject-area. You will lead the BA(Hons) Illustration (online) course curriculum planning and development, ensuring a positive student experience and will oversee quality assurance for the course and internal course and module reviews. Alongside this you will be responsible for the preparation and delivery of online lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials, with the ability to develop strong links with industry partners.
 
As part of the School of Art teaching and learning team, this is a pivotal role to make a success of an innovative new course offering. You will work with the Head of Illustration, course academics and senior colleagues to oversee the creation of content and delivery of compelling learning experiences while working in conjunction with the University’s established and highly expert specialist online learning teams.

About You

The successful candidate will have significant experience in teaching in academia at HE level, and have the proven ability to inspire students, through innovative and online pedagogies, whilst bringing specialist insight and professional expertise in Illustration.
 
You must be highly organised and able to manage their time efficiently to work to our production and delivery schedules. You must have had experience of producing asynchronously online learning materials such as pre-recorded lectures and be confident with using virtual learning environments.
 
You will have a good understanding of the technical requirements of illustration, and an up-to-date awareness of current trends, theories and critical debates informing contemporary illustration. You will be able to evidence a strong portfolio as a creative practitioner which may include your research and have a good network of professionals in the creative industries. Alongside these core qualities, you will be an outstanding educator, practitioner and communicator who can work independently and also part of a team.
 
We are looking to hear from candidates who have the following skills/experience:
 
  • Comprehensive and current knowledge of Illustration, Theory and Practice
  • Experience and engagement in curriculum development and quality assurance processes
  • Experience of teaching within an HE environment sufficient to have gained a thorough knowledge and understanding of the requirements on those teaching at this level
  • Demonstrable professional practice and/or Knowledge Transfer
  • Strong relationships with industry and ability to develop partnerships, projects and employment opportunities for staff and students

This is a part-time, 14 hours a week position across Monday-Friday.
 
Due to the online nature of this role, it can be worked remotely, however the successful candidate must be based within the UK.
