About The Role

The Games Academy is currently seeking a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor to develop and lead a new research group in Data Aesthetics as well as to develop and lead undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Data Science. You will actively shape and contribute to the Games Academy’s ambitious research strategy. Notably, setting out to devise methods, tools and practices that are inclusive, creative and designed to enhance data literacy, transforming the way people use and work with data.

You will be responsible for leading impactful research projects in this area in collaboration with others in the Games Academy and wider university, as well as leading on the development of bids for external research funding. You will also be responsible for the design and development of curricula within the subject area, the aim of which is to help students present informed, valuable information through interpretation and analysis of data. This includes the delivery of underpinning theoretical and mathematical concepts for processing large samples of data, and the application of relevant algorithms to identify patterns and extract value from it. It will also include visualisation and communication techniques. Provisionally, modules include: “Data Fundamentals”, “Data Analytics”, “Data Mining”, “Data Aesthetics”, “Computational Mathematics”, and “Machine Learning”.

The first year of the role will be focused on research and curriculum development. In the first year, this would be limited to leading just one module with a significantly reduced teaching load. However, teaching responsibilities for the 23/24 academic year and beyond are to be negotiated subject to successful research funding bids and the successful leadership of the Data Aesthetics research group.
