About The Role

Falmouth University is seeking an ambitious and experienced Course Leader and practitioner to lead the development and delivery of two exciting programmes:
 
Reporting to the Head of Advertising, you will provide academic leadership and operational management for these courses, ensuring they remain innovative, industry-relevant, and inspiring for students.
 
The Courses
Both courses share modules with related disciplines such as TV, Journalism, Creative Writing, Photography, and Games. They focus on core skills including storytelling, screenwriting, audio-visual production, pitching, and collaboration.  Graduates will be prepared for diverse careers in journalism, publishing, TV, entertainment, marketing communications, or launching their own creative ventures.
 
Key distinctions:
BA(Hons) Media Production: Emphasises factual content, public information, news, and documentary storytelling.
BA(Hons) Content Creation: Focuses on commercial publishing and digital content for entertainment and lifestyle, with strong emphasis on business models for online platforms.
 
Our teaching philosophy is “learning by doing”. Students work on live briefs, real-world projects, and socially relevant issues such as climate change or AI, gaining hands-on experience throughout.
 
The Role
The role includes academic leadership and operational management of both undergraduate courses, line management of the teaching team and associate lecturers, working with our advertising department academic staff on shared modules, organisation, engage in recruitment activities, facilitate multidisciplinary collaboration, module management, major projects and final portfolio supervision.

About You

We are looking for a dynamic educator and practitioner who combines academic experience with industry insight. You will hold a master’s degree and should be confident to teach across modules (pls see course pages for details), write curriculum and design assessment across the subject in a way that is diverse, industry-focused and socially relevant.
 
The candidate will have experience in teaching in academia at HE level, and have the proven ability to inspire students, through innovative pedagogies, whilst bringing specialist insight and professional expertise in related fields: writing, journalism, media, communication and/or content creation.
 
You will have strong industry relationships and ability to create partnerships and opportunities for students. You will be able to relate to a generation of students who are just as likely seeking to create content for TikTok or YouTube, write for challenger/indie media publishers, as they are submitting scripted shorts for festivals or working in legacy media. You will have an up-to-date awareness of current trends, theories and critical debates informing media production and content creation.
 
Alongside these core qualities, you will be an enthusiastic and committed educator, practitioner and communicator who can work independently but also part of a team.
 
We are looking to hear from candidates who have the following skills/experience:
 
  • Comprehensive and current knowledge of media production, content writing and content creation (for brands or commercial sponsors), especially for multi-channel media environments.
  • Experience and engagement in curriculum development and quality assurance processes
  • Experience of teaching within an HE environment sufficient to have gained a thorough knowledge and understanding of the requirements on those teaching at this level
  • Demonstrable professional practice and/or Knowledge Transfer
  • Strong relationships with industry and ability to develop partnerships, projects and employment opportunities for staff and students

This is a permanent, part time, 21 hours per week position across Monday-Friday. You will be based at our Falmouth campus (with occasional travel expected between Penryn and Falmouth campuses.)
